The Voyage

The Breagan I started out with only the knowledge of a sailing class that I took with my daughter, and a summer on an 18 ft daysailer...And a dream to sail around the world.

In 1991, the search began for the perfect boat. Kay and I ended our search in Boston when we found a sister boat to a brand new one in Taiwan. We purchased a Norseman 400, it was sent on a cargo ship to Seattle and then over land to Lake Superior. In 1992 we christened the boat 'Breagan', a Gaelic term meaning toy or plaything.

Breagan then called home, "Port Superior" at Bayfield, Wisconsin. Breagan and I spent the last eight years ('92-'99) sailing Lake Superior with my family and friends, learning the ropes (or should I say "lines".)

We sailed the Apostle Islands and made trips to Canada, Minnesota (of course) and Michigan. I started to feel the itch to take her farther...

Breagan was made for the ocean and I am determined to see the world with her. In 1999, I began preparations to the Breagan for her trip and put things in place for me to be able to spend some time away from my business. My plans are to take this trip and break it down into 2 to 3 month segments so I can go home and see my family too. It may take a little longer to get to see everything I want to see, but you know how it is with grandchildren... 2 months is long enough!
